Jenna Edwards' Queen for a Day

New developments for Queen for a Day and Jenna Edwards, Miss Florida 2004! Founded in 2000, Queen for a Day offers quality of life services to pediatric cancer patients throughout the country. Queen for a Day now has an e-mail newsletter to update supporters and volunteers on local chapter developments and national office news. To be added to the list, visit www.qfad.org. QFAD is also featured in a book by national motivational speaker Peggy Kline titled "Treating Yourself Like Royalty." A portion of the book's proceeds will be donated to QFAD. We are now offering custom sterling silver jewelry to support our programs. The bracelet and key chain make excellent gifts. Photos, descriptions, and order information can be found at www.qfad.org/jewelry.htm.

On a personal note, Jenna recently competed on the game show "Power of Ten with Drew Carey". While she was eliminated in the first round, her brief mention of Queen for a Day garnered several opportunities for the organization. She appears in a national infomercial for Borba skincare and a national SAG commercial for Visit Florida. The Visit Florida campaign can be viewed at this link: http://www.visitflorida.com/sunshine_campaign.
Jenna also sits on the Fitness Advisory Board for Elements, a national fitness club for women.

Miss Florida 2006 Allison Kreiger, back row, third from left, and Bridgewater Middle staff and students hope to send a positive message with jeans donation.

In honor of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week, February 24 to March 1, Bridgewater Middle students cleaned out their closets and donated 502 pairs of jeans to charity to send the message "Be Comfortable In Your Genes."

The donation was held in conjunction with a visit from Miss Florida 2006 Allison Kreiger. Kreiger, a supporter of Helping Other People Eat or HOPE, spoke to students about healthy body image and positive attitudes. She encouraged students to accept themselves regardless of their size and shape with her message, "Don't fight your genes, just change your jeans."

Former Miss UCF 2002 Isabel Rougeau married Danny David on 12/15/07 in Los Cabos, Mexico.  They reside in Houston, Texas where Isabel is Associate Publisher of Houston Magazine.

Miss Florida Outstanding Teen Pageant
The Miss Florida Pageant will accept At-Large Contestants not sponsored by a local program, as well as winners of local competitions. The entry fee is $400 for at-large contestants. You do not have to win a local pageant to compete in the state pageant in June. You can enter as an At-Large Contestant. That just means that a particular local pageant committee does not sponsor you but you compete with the local titleholders at the state competition. If you competed in a local pageant, but did not win, you can still enter the state competition as an At-Large Contestant. Also, if you have not entered any local competition or if there is not one in your area, you can enter as an At-Large Contestant. The deadline to enter is April 15, 2008. Go to the FORMS Section of the website- download and complete the AT LARGE APPLICATION FORM along with payment of $400

Ashton was chosen to represent Earlham College in Richmond Indiana, to join a group, as the only student, to meet with Senator Lugar, Chief of Foreign Affairs, about Haiti. The group's focus was to ask that more officials would be sent to ensure a democratic, fair election in February, and to establish a permanent connection with the Senator so that he could have additional information about what is happening in Haiti daily, in addition to his government sources. Everyone in the group had personal experience in Haiti and the Senator was most impressed with Ashton's mission trip there; visiting , hospitals, orphanages and working in a soup kitchen. ( After she returned, she learned Creole and volunteered at the Haitian Youth Center in West Palm Beach.) As a result of this personal meeting, Ashton plans to apply for an internship with the Senator in Indianapolis, Indiana. Ashton is majoring in International Studies at Earlham and will spend May term studying in Senegal.
