Local Franchise Sponsored (2) Contestant at large* -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Contestants do not have to win a local pageant to compete in the State Pageant in July. The judges are not aware how the contestants have qualified to attend the State Pageant. If a contestant competed in a local pageant and did not win the title sponsored by the local, the contestant can enter the state competition as an At Large Contestant. If the contestant does not have a local pageant in the area she resides, the contestant can enter as an At Large Contestant. If the contestant has not entered a pageant but wishes to attend the state pageant, she may enter as an At Large Contestant. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ENTRY FEES FOR $250 - Franchise Teen or Franchise

necessary), Competition Rules Eligibility TALENT Talent performances cannot exceed 2 minutes. If the performance exceeds 2 minutes, the judges will be notified and the score given will be adjusted accordingly. Only functional props may be used. No live accompaniment is allowed. Attire may be costume or garment of choice and should directly relate to the talent selection. SCORING IN TALENT The Talent phase of competition provides an insight into the contestant’s preparatory and performance skills. Consideration is given to whether the contestant’s talent selection fits these skills and her personality. The Talent competition acknowledges the quality of the talent being presented, the technical skill level, and the stage presence of the contestant. Each contestant is competing against herself and MUST receive a score in a 1 to 10 point range, for all Preliminary Nights of a Multi Night Competition and a 6 to 10 point range for the Final Night of Competition using whole numbers only. More than one contestant may receive the same score. CRITERIA FOR SCORING TALENT Overall “first impression”: technical skill level; entertainment value; stage presence; audience appeal; costuming and staging. INTERVIEW Teen interviews are to be 8 minutes at the state competition. There is no self introduction or closing statement. Contestants will be provided a podium which they may stand beside or behind. No personal contact such as hand shaking is allowed with the judges. Contestants should be dressed in attire that is appropriate to their age and should be reflective of today’s Teens. Interview attire may be a dress, daytime suit, pant suit, blouse & pants. Rhinestones or night time beading is not acceptable for Interview. SCORING IN PRIVATE INTERVIEW The Private Interview phase of competition is an opportunity to learn as much as possible about the contestant – her personal qualities and attributes to be Miss Florida’s Outstanding Teen. Each contestant is competing against herself and MUST receive a score in a 1 to 10 point range using whole numbers only. More than one contestant may receive the same score. CRITERIA FOR SCORING PRIVATE INTERVIEW Overall First Impression
Contestants will model evening wear of their choice. This evening gown should reflect the Teen’s personality and style and must be age appropriate. The gown could be something worn to the Prom or any social occasions. In selecting a gown, think of that “dream dress”. SCORING IN EVENING WEAR/ON-STAGE QUESTION The Evening Wear/On-Stage Question phase of competition is designed for the judge to assess the contestant’s beauty, poise, grace, and commanding stage presence, as well as for the contestant to make an on-stage statement of her interests, opinions, and aspirations in answer to a question selected for her. These both must be projected “across the footlights.” The contestant’s total look, charisma, and ability as a spokesperson are to be considered. Her evening wear (not the value of the evening wear) should complement the contestant’s individuality Each contestant is competing against herself and MUST receive a score in a 1 to 10 point range on Preliminary Nights of a Multi Night Competition and a **6 to 10 point range on the Final Night of the Competition, using whole numbers only. More than one contestant may receive the same score. CRITERIA FOR SCORING EVENING WEAR/ON-STAGE QUESTIONS Overall “first impression”; beauty; sense of confidence; personality and stage presence; walk, carriage and grace; sense of style and appropriateness of the evening wear. Does she take command of the stage by simply walking onto it? Judges are to give special attention to whether or not the contestant answered the question she was asked, and did she have the presence to make the audience listen to her? SCHOLASTIC ACHIEVEMENT The Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Program’s mission statement states that we promote scholastic achievement, creative accomplishment, healthy living, and community involvement for America’s teens. Due to the wide age range of the contestants, judges will be selected from both middle and upper school. (No college) For example, the educators can be from Admissions, Academic Dean, Registrar, Guidance Counselor, and/or faculty members. Documentation 1. Official Report Card (7th and 8th grade, only) or Official Grade Transcript – the report card/transcript must come directly from the contestant’s school in a sealed envelope. The seal will be broken by the person designated by pageant officials. Each judge will receive a copy of each transcript. (Home schooled students must send transcripts or report cards from the school that is overseeing her academic studies.) 2. Contestant’s Resume – Copies for each judge. Questions 1. Has this student maintained at least a “B” average during the past academic year? (Based on information contained in the report card/transcript.) 2. Would her academic achievements place her in the top 10% of your (the judge’s institution)? 3. Is she taking Honors, Advanced, AP or IB courses? 4. Does she hold leadership positions in her school and extracurricular activities? (Based on information from her resume.) 5. Based on the information before you, do you believe this student would meet the description of an “outstanding student”? A “yes” answer receives 2 points. A “no” answer receives 0 points. At the conclusion of judging, results will be sent to pageant officials. LIFESTYLE AND FITNESS Ø Attire for lifestyle and fitness is active wear used for work out sessions, jogging, physical fitness, Yoga, etc. Select attire that is stylish, sporty, innovative and versatile and reflects your personality and fitness lifestyle. Use your personal style and flair in attire choice and color selection. SCORING IN LIFESTYLE AND FITNESS The Lifestyle and Fitness competition is designed to determine the level of fitness of the contestant and to obtain a glimpse into her daily routine and lifestyle. The contestant’s drive, energy, and presence are to be likewise considered. Each contestant is competing against herself and MUST receive a score in a 1 to 10 point range for the Preliminary Nights of competition and 6 to 10 point range for the Final Night of Competition. More than one contestant may receive the same score. CRITERIA FOR SCORING LIFESTYLE AND FITNESS Overall “first impression;” physical fitness; physical beauty; sense of confidence and composure; display of drive, energy and charisma; concern for a physically fit and healthy body style. The total of the previous competitions will determine the top 5. The list of the top 5, in random order will be given to the judges who will rank each contestant as follows: 1st Place - 10 points 2nd Place - 5 points 3rd Place - 3 points 4th Place - 2 points 5th Place - 1 point Auditors will discard all previous scoring and take only the top 5 ballot into consideration when totaling the points and determining the winner Please forward any questions to Rob Loy at loytpa@aol.com |
