June 30, 2019 -- Michaela McLean of Clermont was crowned Miss Florida 2019, Saturday June 29 at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland, Fla.
McLean is a 21-year old graduate of the University of Alabama, with a double major in Dance and Public Relations. The new Miss Florida earned $15,900 between winning the crown and tying for awards in talent, interview and evening gown in her preliminary group.
During the competition, she performed a lyrical dance to “You Say” and spoke about her social impact initiative, “Brave and Beautiful” which focuses on empowering women to pursue purpose-driven lives.
As Miss Florida, McLean will travel the state making appearances on behalf of the organization’s educational partners, the Everglades Foundation and Advanced Recovery Systems.
Prior to winning Miss Florida 2019, McLean was the first runner up to Miss Florida 2018, Taylor Tyson, earning an additional $7,000 in scholarships. She was also Miss Florida’s Outstanding Teen 2014 and as a contestant in the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen program, earned a scholarship to the University of Alabama.
Representing the sunshine state, McLean will compete for Miss America 2020, which will be aired live on NBC.
Additionally, Hannah Adams of Fleming Island, Fla. was crowned Miss Florida’s Outstanding Teen 2019. The 15-year-old performed a contemporary pointe dance to a medley by Queen and was awarded the Miss Florida’s Outstanding Teen Community Service award for her extensive work advocating for her chosen platform, “Finding a Cure for Pediatric Cancer”. Adams is a childhood cancer survivor herself. She also won the preliminary interview award and fitness award. She will compete for Miss America’s Outstanding Teen in Orlando, beginning July 23.
In addition to the cash scholarships and prize packages, both McLean and Adams also received full-tuition scholarships to Stetson University and Florida Southern College, valued at $190,000 and $150,000 respectively.
